Initiated by Artistic Director Marie-Annick Béliveau, the Laboratoires Lyrik are experimental residencies that bring together artists from different disciplines to explore new creative processes in lyric arts.
For this fifth edition, Chants Libres invites Franco-Ontarian composer Thierry Tidrow to explore new sounds and new ways of creating. A space for research and experimentation where artists can freely try, test, and develop their work.
About Thierry Tidrow
Thierry Tidrow is a rising composer whose work encompasses both instrumental and vocal music, with a particular focus on opera. His sonic world brings together multiple musical realms, where noise-based explorations, expressionist lyricism, pastiche, and parody form a cohesive and richly detailed discourse (Jury of the ECM’s Generation 2018). His ability to boldly combine styles, underpinned by a thoughtful approach to the relationship between sound and text, acts as a revealer of hidden or emerging meanings. His dramatic flair likewise draws him toward an intrinsically narrative mode of expression, infused with surprise and intrigue.
