OPER’ACTUEL is a flagship event of Chants Libres, a creation-driven opera company dedicated to the emergence of new lyrical works and to inviting the entire live arts research-creation community to explore operatic art. The 9th edition will take place under the artistic direction of Sarah Albu, in co-production with Ensemble Paramirabo, one of Canada’s most innovative and accomplished new music ensembles. The selected works will be presented on stage in Montréal from September 25 to 27, 2026.
Available instrumentation:
1 to 4 voices and 0 to 6 instruments — flute, clarinet, violin, cello, piano, and percussion.
Have a proposal? Submit your project by February 15, 2026, by filling out the application form.
We welcome any creation proposal, with the sole condition that it has never been publicly presented in the proposed version.
The application package must include a project description, supporting materials demonstrating the practice of the artists involved, and any other relevant information that allows us to evaluate the quality and relevance of the proposal.

Paramirabo positions itself as a voice for the dissemination of today’s music and for the promotion of emerging composers. As the driving force behind innovative events, the ensemble enables young composers to refine their artistic identity within Montréal’s new music scene and offers them a springboard to international exposure.
